// 10 Ways To Spread The Blog Love

Part of my 25 Before 26 goal list this year was to spend more time reading y'alls blogs and returning all of the sweet comments that you leave here on LCH day after day. I try to dedicate an evening each week to poke through the comments left that week and spread a little kindness your way. Since I've started doing this, I've noticed a huge change in the way that I view blogging. It's going to sound so silly (side-eye me if you must!) but it's true. I've noticed this new, refreshing feeling when I open my Bloglovin' account or Blogger dashboard. Not just that, but I've also found *so* many new blogs and shops that I'm crazy about. For the past while I've honestly felt jaded and disenchanted by the blog world. I think I let a little bit of negativity breed into something much bigger, and then it sucked the fun right out of it. I've taken certain measures these past few weeks to really try to get my blogging mojo back (whatever that is) and I'm hoping a few of my suggestions will help you feel (and share!) the blog love, too. Everyone enjoys blogging more when it's fun. Let's try and keep it that way!

Here's how you can help spread the love in the blog world:

1. Spend an evening or afternoon perusing your own blog's comments. Click through to the names that you start recognizing. Not only will this help you notice some loyal blog readers, but it's a great boost of self-esteem to read kind and considerate words. Read your readers' blogs. Leave them sincere comments in return. You'd be amazed at how many people you share interests with!

2. Search through their blog and find a post that resonates with you. Scout out their shops and take note of the awesome products they're creating. Share these finds with your readers! On Twitter, Facebook, or your own blog. It's highly likely that your audience would enjoy these things, too. (I'm working on an ever-growing list of new favorite blog finds! Yours might be on it :P)

3. Try and find at least one new blog per week that you really dig. Subscribe!

4. Check out their sponsors and friends in the sidebar or blog roll. Click through to a few that look interesting. Find new blogs and shops that appeal to you, all the while supporting the blogger and their advertisers/friends.

5. Reach out to someone who inspires you. Whether they have 50 blog readers or 50,000 - Let them know that you love what they're putting out into the world.

6. Clear out the clutter! Unsubscribe from all of the blogs that you feel don't add anything of value to your day (even if that includes LCH!) Make room for the inspiring, creative bloggers you've yet to discover.

7. Don't be afraid that you'll "give away your readers" by linking out to someone else. Your readers will be grateful that you shared an awesome new blog or shop. There's enough room on the internet for everyone.

8. Truly read the blog posts of others. Really take it all in. Don't just skim over the body copy and then leave a generic copy-and-paste comment just so you can plug your own blog. Other commenters will be more likely to click over to check you out if you're giving insightful and sincere comments.

9. Engage in the conversation. Did you see a blogger ask about a beauty product or song recommendation? Have you be in the same boat as a fellow blogger and want to share your perspective? Get to talkin'! Don't be afraid of being repetitive or losing your voice in the crowd. The only way you can be heard is if you speak up!

10. Be a source of encouragement and positivity for those around you. Promote what you love instead of bashing what you hate.

Can you think of other ways to spread the blog love?

PS; A very very special Happy Birthday goes out to one of my oldest and truest best friends, Shannon! I wish we weren't separated by 700 miles, but I hope I get to see you soon! (Psst - her blog is the bomb dot com! Share some of your newfound blog love by popping over and telling her happy birthday!)

  2. Too often I read posts from my favorite bloggers but don't comment. I have this irrational fear that people will think I'm a weirdo when I comment on their blog. I love the tips you shared though and I'm resolving to be better! xo

  3. These are all awesome tips! I don’t have a huge blog with a lot of followers, but I too have found myself in a jaded blogger funk from time to time, especially when noticing that most of the blogs I’m looking at and reading daily are plugging the same products over and over. I love reading your blog because it’s not just about the reviews! I love seeing your outfit posts and blurbs about family, and I am particularly fond of things I love Thursday on your blog. You find the best things, seriously.

  4. If I don't have any plans, I'll usually do this on a weekend. One blog leads to another, to another, to another. It's so fun! You're awesome for posting this! And I totally remember the day you posted a comment on my blog and started following me. I like, freaked out. 'A big blog came over to my little blog... and they even followed me! AHH!' Just wanted you to know it made me day/week and you're awesome. :]

  5. Oh Kaelah, you write my favorite blog ever. There I said it. The end. You win. I feel that so many people blog without a wide emotional range, but you just put everything out there! It's great. Another blog that I really enjoy is here:

She posts multiple times a day, some of it is just giveaways, but there is a lot of insightful stuff too!

  6. I love all of these tips. I think it's great that you are encouraging more blog love between bloggers. I love it when blog authors who have thousands of readers show you that they aren't too busy to take notice of their readers. I also love the suggestion of clearing out the clutter and unsubscribing from blogs that you no longer find inspiring (although that is definitely not the case with you blog for me). Thanks for these lovely suggestions.

  7. I absolutely loved this post. :) Who doesn't need more positivity in their lives? I only get a few comments on my blog posts if I'm lucky, but I try really hard to reply to every one. Maybe it sounds dumb, but I feel really honored that people read my blog at all, let alone post about something I wrote about. It's really humbling, so I make a real effort to show them appreciation.

Thank you for this morning's positivity! :)

  9. I adore this list :) I try to respond to every comment I get, but sometimes I let them pile up and I have to spend a day responding to them all. It sounds like work, but you're so right...I look forward to those days! I lovelove connecting with readers and it's such a fun and special part of blogging. Thank you for these tips, I'm definitely going to try and exercise more of them! :)

  11. This is such a great post! I can totally relate to 4 as I found a lot of my favourite blogs through clicking on the sponsor banners.

  12. Thanks so much for all of these great blog love tips! I believe so much in trying to respond to the comments you receive but also clearing out the clutter when needed. When I transferred to bloglovin', I found that there were a lot of blogs that were not inspiring to me any more (that maybe I followed because of a giveaway? Idk) but were taking up so much time and space on my reader. So, I would have a reader filled with negativity and automation and never actually get to my loyal readers blogs or the motivational stuff. When they popped up, I would just scroll over them or when I read them, I felt a sense of heaviness. That's not what I want to feel. So though some people may look at me & think I'm wrong for doing that, it makes me feel better to look at a feed full of friends and creative energies. Does that make sense? I've been feeling a lot of stress from blogging in the recent months and I think it's important to figure out what exactly is causing that stress? For me, it was partly some of the blogs I was reading. I've been trying to make room for positive, enlightening, inspiring blogs and LCH is still on that list! Though I can only visit occasionally because my life gets in the way most of the time, I really enjoy coming here and reading your blog ♥

    1. i totally agree with you! there were a lot of blogs that inspired me to take the leap and start my own. but once i finally did i noticed a lot of blogs in my reader somehow made me feel worse about myself instead of inspired. so one day i removed all the blogs i skip over and started adding my commenters and #FF from twitter and it was rejuvenating! we all grow and our interests change and there's nothing wrong with that!

glad you broke the cycle and are getting inspired again!

    2. I am in the process of removing those blogs that are uninspiring and moving on to bigger and better things! Thank you so much for your comment and giving me even more courage to continue pursuing what's important! ♥

  13. I love finding new blogs through comments! And then looking at who my favourite bloggers follow I find is a great way to find new onesxx

  14. I closed down my old blog partly because that commenting back to reader seriously burned me out. I tried so so so hard to comment on everyone who commented on my blog and I think it was part of my blogging downfall. I wanted to be sure that everyone knew i appreciated them coming for a visit but i time-wise, I couldnt keep up. :( So I took a break.... a 2 year break. I have actually started a new blog now only a month ago and I am so glad for these tips. I need to dedicate a certain amount of time a week and need to try and not feel quilty id i cant get everyone back!!

  15. Great blog post! My blog has become a side note in the past few months when life being super busy and I truly just didn't have time. It's a goal for the summer to set aside a time every week to work on my blog and make into what I wanted it to be in the first place.
Thanks for the encouraging post :)

  16. What a waste of time it would be to just go to all these blogs you don't care about and not even read them...what's the point? People are so weird. lol.

I've made a point of only following people I actually like and who engage in some way with me, not treat me like I'm just one of thousands of checkmarks they have beside their "followers" list.

I feel happier and like I have actual friends online, not that I'm reading a third rate magazine about what someone got in the mail, illustrated with photos of their cats.

  17. You are seriously one of the sweetest bloggers out there, and you actually care about your readers. When I started up my new blog, I decided I wasn't going to focus on anything but writing for myself and making sure I was in some way providing content that was inspiring or beneficial to someone else, and you are proof that bloggers at any level of audience can still remain down-to-earth. I get maybe 20 hits a day, but it's the same people coming back, and that's awesome because I know I'm doing something right. It's definitely still a work in progress, but I feel like I'm on the right track, and I'm doing it for the right reasons this time around.

  18. I love these! I've been looking for new blogs to read and some of these are amazing ideas! Thank you so much for the new ideas! <3

  19. Yes yes yes! It is so easy to share the blog love and yet so easy to fall into old habits or stick to reading the same blogs you read 3 years ago. There is so much inspiration out there that it's great to find new and interesting things to read.

    ReplyDelete
  20. These are fabulous tips, and ones which I try to do on a regular basis. :) When I did my Disney intership I found I was slacking off when it came to leaving comments. I would read every post my favourite writers published, but somewhere along the line I became a wallflower. Now I'm trying to break this habit by leaving comments for all my favourite people. I know how wonderful it feels to get a comment from someone, so if I can make someone else feel that way, then I'm going to do it! Making people happy and making friends is what I enjoy the most about blogging because community is important to me.

Also, I've been going crazy discovering new blogs by clicking endlessly through side banners and commenters on some of my favourite blogs. So many fresh faces who have such wonderful and inspiring things to say! I can't wait to read more! And as always, I thoroughly enjoy your blog as well!

  22. This is such a thoughtful and positive post. I find that connecting and appreciating the other bloggers jazzes me up when I am down about blogging too.

Also I try to do all the tips you mentioned and it IS fun :)

  23. This is a wonderful post! Part of the reason I love blogging is the people and the sense of community, and you can only be a part of that community by giving back! I always comment on the blogs of the people who commented on mine, and usually find remarkable new blogs that way. I like introducing my readers to new blogs and people, and usually do it through my Looks I Love posts. You reminded me that I need to check out the sidebar adds more -- great idea!

  24. Amen to all of this. I have been making the effort to click through on my comments more and comment back. Creating conversation (and community) is an easy way to contribute something positive to the blogging world. There are sooooo many blogs out there and I started to feel like my attention was being focused on a select few - and I was missing out! These are all great tips and I'm glad you put them out there. xo

  25. Such a great list of ideas. One of my goals this summer is to find some more blogs I like and leave more comments! Your blog was the initial inspiration for me to start blogging last year!

    ReplyDelete
  26. Totally agree with your list. I'm the WORST at remembering to comment, then find myself wondering why I feel like I'm in a bit of a blog bubble sometimes! I'm also taking part in the 'blog every day in may' challenge so I can branch out a little and make some new friends. I guess I'm as shy online as I am offline, in some ways!

    ReplyDelete
  27. I just wanted to comment to say I have been a long time reader, but i never really comment. I always feel like there are soo many comments that sometimes I feel like whatever I say will get lost. (Ill chalk that up to low self esteem or something)...
Anyway, to go along with number 5, I just wanted to say you are one of my blogging inspirations! I love your adorable outfits and how you present yourself online. I hope that you continue to do exactly what your doing!!!
your shots in dresses has helped me branch out and finally wear adorable clothes, even though i feel like a complete tomboy! Im even making my own dresses!! Thank you!

  28. I really like that a blog (with more visibility) is supporting a positive blogging experience. I don't have sponsors or hordes of readers but I still love blogging and reading about ladies (or gents sometimes)! I definitely will take more time to comment or "share the love" with others, without feeling self-conscious about it.
    Thanks for posting this!

  29. I definitely think that you need to unsubscribe to blogs that you no longer find inspiring. Some people say it's a bit mean but I think you have to be cruel to be kind. I'd rather someone unfollowed my blog than give me the illusion I have a larger following. This is a really great post. I comment on lots of blogs but that's about it, will start doing a few of these x

    ReplyDelete
  30. I love this! I wish more bloggers were like you.
I've literally just started my blog so not a lot of these rules apply to me, but I'll certainly keep it in mind for when they do :)

  31. I have to work so hard at this! great tips.

I did unsubscribe from about 1/2 of my blogs when I moved everything out of Google Reader. that felt amazing & then gave me a chance to actually read the blogs I follow. :)

    ReplyDelete
  32. one of my favorite things to do is reply to other commenters on another persons blog. especially when i notice i am about to say the exact some thing, instead i just kind of give a "hear, hear!" or "holla!" type comment instead. and then i go check out that person's blog because obviously we'd probably have a lot in common!

oh yeah, that's the other thing, when i read a post by somebody else that really resonates with me then i will check out the blogs of everyone who commented— it's an easy way to find others with common interests/awesome sites!

  33. I love that you shared this and are acknowledging the fact that we all need to stick together :) The blogosphere is full of wonderful, beautiful people and good karma is all around. I truly love when people come together.

Thanks for sharing Kaelah, I'll definitely try to follow more of your list more often :)

  38. Thank you so mu for this post! Lately (ie the past 2-3 months) I have sort of abandoned my blog because I just wasn't feeling it anymore. I am so glad to know that I am not the only one - and I think that people might get tired of me raving about what book or movie I am currently into. Thank you so much for giving me the inspiration to get back into it.

  40. It's the best feeling in the world to unsubscribe to blogs you don't read. I know that is not exactly spreading the love, but it makes blogging feel like less of a chore.
I think a great way to spread the blog love is to always visit the blogs of those comment. That way you're returning the love :).

    ReplyDelete
  41. I am truly the worst at commenting on blogs, but I'm working on it! Sometimes I find myself typing, backspacing, typing, and then giving up all together on commenting. Over-thinking it much? Yeah. And then - I'm all sad when people don't comment on *my* blog. Definitely feel free to send me a side-eye or two for that one!

I love #5 and I should say that *you* are the only blogger I've ever taken the time to email just to do that! It was a super long time ago but I remember being nervous to do it, haha. Can you imagine me in person if I'm nervous to email people? Sheesh! Hopefully I can work on my social skills when I attend my first blogger meetup in June (which is for southern blogger gals, and you should totally come! It's in Georgia!! The MaieDae Mixer!)

I need to work on my social networking skills for sure- this is a great list to get people started on spreading the blog love!

  42. Love this post! I also feel like my attempts at blogging are wasted, but this was a good nudge of encouragement. Thanks for sharing!

  43. Love all of these! I have very few subscribed readers and even fewer comments but I always try to look at everyone who follows me and respond back to comments! Some of them really love my little blog and I want them to know I really appreciate that. And I use these tips in all of my social networks! If I see someone is always commenting on my instagram pictures, I always respond back and take some time to like and comment on some of their pictures. :)

  44. I think these are great tips to keep in mind. I usually dedicate different periods of the day to my own blogging vs. going through blogs I follow or blogs of people who have commented. I really like to keep up to date with bloggers I like or who have had a connection with. The big one for me is to go through blogs I follow (mostly on GFC) and weed out ones that I don't necessarily want to keep up with -- I'm at my following max! I think you're absolutely right that there is enough Internet for everyone :) and the bloggers I have connected with or who have taken the time to comment on my blog mean a lot more to me than I probably would have thought! Thanks so much for posting!

  45. I think all of your points are incredibly important. Sometimes bloggers lose sight of what blogging is all about and that we are a community of people supporting each other. Too often people become obssessed with numbers and stats and are just looking for a boomerang effect when they comment. I think it's time we went back to basics and started loving what other people do and post and say and feel.
Let't start supporting each other properly and spreading the blogging love.

  66. This is a fantastic post! I know my heart sings when I receive a comment, so I try to comment on blogs I love as much as possible. It's such a huge encouragement, especially to bloggers just starting out. I've made so many wonderful friends through blogging that I never would've made if we hadn't taken the time to comment to each other! I'll admit that when a post already has a gazillion comments I'm less likely to comment since it feels like it might get lost or might not be that much appreciated, but I'm trying to be better about that. Gotta share the love! Thanks for such an inspiring post, Kaelah!

  68. I've always been a reader/commenter and tried to build relationships with my own readers. I actually a few times unsubscribed to blogs that I left comments on regularly and after a year or two of getting absolutely no response back ever. . I didn't see the point. When I go up to people in person, they don't just walk away . . .if someone goes to me and says something nice about my hair or outfit, I always say something back, even if it is a "thank you", so I work on doing that on the interwebs too. I hope many people consider your list that you wrote up, because I loved it and think it is so wonderful!

  73. This tips are the basic step for a good blogging experience. You can create a community with this.

I try to stop and comment in the blogs I follow whenever I can, but when the list is so big, it's impossible!

  74. I especially like number 10 - the internet can be such a mean place sometimes, it's worth trying to inject as much positivity and love as possible.

I'm just over from Sometimes Sweet, who is also sharing the blog love!

  75. I really should start up a blog of my own soon... I have a tumblr art blog, but it's mostly just "post a pic and hope it gets reblogged." No real effort.

My little sister is getting into the whole food blogging deal, so maybe it's about time I get started! I read enough of them.

  77. LOVED this post. And some of these suggestions. I'm going to have to start thinking like this as well. I have a bunch of blogs that I read, but I should probably pay more attention to the people who stop by my page. Thanks for reminding me :)
